Reverse Osmosis vs Filtration

Reverse Osmosis vs Filtration

3 and 5 Stage Water Filters

When you make the grand decision of starting a water filtration program, you are presented with two options: 3 stage water filtration, or 5 stage reverse osmosis. What are the differences?

Let’s take a look:

3 Stage Water Filtration (Everpure S101 Filter)

This type of filtration is our base product for any customer that enjoys a water that tastes very comparable to spring water.  But, why is it called three stage when only one filter is used? Good question. The sophistication of the Everpure S101 performs the same duties as two carbon block and one sediment filter would. The filter that your water will go through is a compact, sanitary cartridge that delivers ultra-clear, fresh, premium drinking water.

This filter reduces possible health hazards such as asbestos fibers, Cryptosporidium and Giardia Cysts. Everpure S101 filters also reduce lead, nitrates, arsenic, fluoride, barium, cadmium, mercury, TDS (total dissolved solids) and other heavy metals. Lastly, the filter is NSF Certified under NSF Standard 58 and WQA Gold Seal validated.  The Everpure S101 is an anti-microbial filter that flows water through it at a maximum of half a gallon per minute. It is a great filter for someone who wants to transform their tap water into safe, excellent, and great tasting drinking water. (We recommend that you get this filter changed once a year.)

5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Filter (Everpure S101 + Semi-Permeable membrane + In-Line Taste and Odor Filter)

Distillata’s 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis filtration program is option two. Compared to any of our competitors’ reverse osmosis filtration, we keep it sophisticated and precise when it comes to reverse osmosis. Starting the water flow through the Everpure S101 filter, the water is primed and already in excellent condition. Secondly, once the water passes through the first three stages it is squeezed through a 1/10,000 micron semi-permeable membrane. Just to put into perspective of how accurate these membranes are in purifying your water, one hair follicle is considered to be 50 microns. This membrane is the meat and potatoes of your reverse osmosis water, as it completely removes any impurity and leaves your Total Dissolved Solids count at under 10. Look below at the TDS chart for reference (tap water has 300-400 TDS).

Lastly through the fifth stage of your reverse osmosis process is the In-Line taste and odor filter. This is a fine-tuning filter that improves the taste of the water as well as removes any odors that the water may have. Once the water passes through the fifth stage, you will have the highest quality of reverse osmosis drinking water at the push of a button. We recommend that the membrane is changed every 2-5 years and that the Taste and Odor filter should be changed every 1-2 years. As mentioned above, the Everpure S101 is recommended to be changed every 300 gallons or one year.

In conclusion, either choice is excellent for making your tap water readily available and safe to drink. Cost-effectiveness and water filtration go hand in hand so when it comes to choosing between 3-stage and 5-stage filtration, it is solely based on what kind of water you would prefer to drink in your home or office.
